OpenBook Robotics (OBR) is a student led startup dedicated to providing students with low-cost robotics educational kits and curriculums.
OBR's flagship product is KAVAR, a 3 DOF planar robotic arm that was commissioned for Northeastern University’s ME3460: “Robotics Dynamics and Control” course by Robotics Program Director Prof. Rifat Sipahi. I led the mechanical design of the arm, and assembled 5 kits to be used thoroughout Prof. Sipahi's course. Students were led to both assemble and program the arm to teach basic robotics concept such as DH Parameters, Forward and Inverse Kinematics, and Jacobian Matricies.
This project received the prestigious PEAK Experience Summit Award for Spring 2023 from Northeastern Undergraduate Research and Fellowships and was successfully implemented in the Spring 2024 curriculum. During National Engineers Week, the kit was showcased to over 20 elementary school students, demonstrating its educational value.
